FAQ
Frequently asked questions
Answers to common questions about online therapy, Clinical Psychologists, confidentiality, session length, fees, and getting started with Bluecove Practice.
What is a Clinical Psychologist?
Clinical Psychologists are highly trained mental health professionals who have completed a minimum of six years of university-level study, including a doctoral-level qualification. We are trained to assess and treat a wide range of mental health difficulties using evidence-based approaches. In the UK, the title 'Clinical Psychologist' is protected by law and regulated by the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).
How is a Clinical Psychologist different from a psychiatrist?
Psychiatrists are medical doctors who specialise in mental health and can prescribe medication. Clinical Psychologists are not medical doctors and do not prescribe medication, but we have extensive training in psychological assessment and therapy.
How do I know if therapy is right for me?
If you are struggling with your mental health or simply feel that you would benefit from a dedicated space to talk and reflect, therapy may well be helpful. Many people come to therapy during periods of change, uncertainty, or personal growth, as well as during more difficult times. If you are unsure, get in touch for an initial appointment. There is no obligation to proceed following this.
How do I know which therapist to choose, Jacquelyn or Ceyla?
Both of us are experienced Clinical Psychologists offering individual online therapy for adults. Read our individual profiles to get a sense of our backgrounds and approaches, and choose whoever feels like the better fit. If you are unsure, tell us a little about what you are looking for in your enquiry and we can help guide you.
What happens after I get in touch?
Once you contact us, we will aim to respond as soon as possible. If we have availability and feel that we may be able to help, we will arrange an initial appointment. This is an opportunity for us to understand what has brought you to therapy, what you are hoping for, and to answer any questions you may have. It is also a chance for you to get a sense of whether we are the right fit. There is no pressure to commit to ongoing work after this session.
How long will therapy last?
This varies from person to person. Some people find that a focused course of short-term therapy, perhaps six to twelve sessions, is enough to address a specific difficulty. Others benefit from longer-term work to explore more complex or longstanding patterns. We will discuss this with you and review it regularly as we go.
How often will we meet?
Sessions usually take place weekly or fortnightly, depending on your needs or circumstances and what works best for you.
How long is each session?
Each session is 50 minutes long.
Where do sessions take place?
All sessions take place online via Zoom. You can attend from wherever you feel most comfortable, although most people choose to be at home. We ask that you find a private space where you will not be interrupted and where you feel able to speak freely.
What do I need for online therapy?
You will need a stable internet connection, a device with a camera and microphone (such as a smartphone, tablet, or laptop), and a private space. We will send you a Zoom link before each session.
Is online therapy as effective as in-person therapy?
Research suggests that online therapy can be just as effective as in-person therapy for most difficulties. Many people also find the convenience and accessibility of online therapy particularly helpful, as it removes the need to travel and can make sessions easier to fit into a busy schedule. If at any point we feel that a different format of support might serve you better, we will discuss this with you openly.
Is everything I share confidential?
Yes, everything you share with us in the context of therapy is treated as strictly confidential, however there are a small number of exceptions to this, which are outlined in our Privacy Policy and Therapy Agreement.
What is your cancellation policy?
We ask that you give at least 48 hours' notice if you need to cancel or reschedule a session. Sessions cancelled with less than 48 hours' notice may be charged at the full session fee. We understand that life can be unpredictable and will always aim to be as flexible as possible where we can.
